Ongoing interview

Paulo, I just read the last comments of Jan Herman on your text. First of all, I think he was not honest: he has edited your text online for free when you wrote to him (and we can see it in his site) that it was for the press purposes only. What do you have to say on that?

I believe we need to have respect for the work of those who are doing it in an honest way, even if you are not fond of it.
I believe that a writing text is as important as a piece of land someone owes.
I believe that you can be from Europe and be fond of America.
I believe that I do not need to be acquitted because of the acts of my ancestors in the fifteen and sixteen century (if they were guilty of something).
I believe that we can be from a small country and not be upset with that still.
I just believe that America is a symbol of our time and this is what I wrote about.
I believe that there are Americans and also Europeans who can handle that.
I believe that I can be European and do not be acquitted for writing on America; do not be acquitted for writing on the greatness of America.
